Corpus Christi College in the University of Cambridge has selected a recently formed and locally based company Smith & Coburn Ltd to supply all its janitorial and washroom supplies.

At a time when many small businesses are struggling, Smith & Coburn Ltd were awarded the prestigious contract after a rigorous tender process and several one to one meetings. Corpus Christi chose Smith & Coburn Ltd for its environmentally sensitive range of products coupled with its exceptional customer service philosophy.

For the next two years starting from October 1st 2008 Smith & Coburn Ltd will provide cleaning products and washroom supplies for the whole campus in Cambridge, consisting of two sites and over 600 students.

Corpus Christi College is one of the ancient colleges of the University of Cambridge. Founded in 1352 by the Guilds of Corpus Christi and the Blessed Virgin Mary, it bears the distinction of being the only College in Oxford or Cambridge founded by their citizens. The College recently celebrated 650 years of commitment to teaching and research, carried out on the site of its original foundation in the heart of mediaeval Cambridge.

The ceremony has become established as a major event on the local social calendar with this year’s sparkling event hosted by comedian and actor Alistair McGowan and held at the Trinity Park Conference and Events Centre in Ipswich, with an attendance of over 500 influential guests.

Washroom and janitorial company, Smith & Coburn Ltd was recognised for its entrepreneurial flair, attention to sales growth and customer service superiority, together with business evolution, promotion and marketing, strategy success and local support. Their passion and drive in what they do and their business acumen was evident to the Judging Panel.
Glen Smith & Steve Coburn, who with a combined industry experience of over 25 years, launched Smith & Coburn Ltd in June 2008. They recognised the demand for environmental products and in spotting a niche gap in the market and despite comfortable existences and the uncertain economic conditions, left their financially secure jobs to privately finance and launch the business.
