Smith & Coburn added to the Apprenticeships Roll of Honour

Since October 2012, Shane Winslow has been working at Smith & Coburn as an apprentice in order to gain an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Warehousing and an NVQ in English and Maths.

Smith & Coburn has now been added to the official Apprenticeships Roll of Honour, which showcases businesses who have a real commitment to Apprenticeships and who recognise the overall business benefits of employing apprentices.

Speaking about his time so far at Smith & Coburn, Shane said, “My role includes a whole range of duties concerning warehousing and storage, giving me an invaluable breadth of knowledge as I work towards my NVQ qualifications. Working with, and being supported by, the Smith & Coburn team has provided me with practical experience, and has helped me to learn about the various different aspects of the business.”

Smith & Coburn's Pete Lilley faces gruelling coast-to-coast charity cycle ride

There was no rest and relaxation for Smith & Coburn’s Pete Lilley over the long Easter weekend, as he faced a gruelling 300 mile coast-to-coast cycle ride to raise funds for the charity Alzheimer’s Society.

Pete, a member of the Bishop’s Stortford Cycling Club, has taken part in organised charity cycling events in the past, but this time he and a friend truly did all the “leg work” themselves, by planning their own route to create a challenge for themselves. Starting at Aberystwyth, they cycled 100 miles per day for 3 days, through the lingering winter weather, to reach their destination of Lowestoft.

Thank you to everyone who kindly sponsored Pete on his cycling challenge; a very impressive £600 was raised for a very important cause!
